Our Solar System and Satellites. Meteors and their Types

Easy introduction about Solar System! Satellites and Meteors

The system is stuffed with planets, moons, asteroids, comets, minor planets, and lots of other objects. The system includes the sun and every other object that orbits around it because of gravity. Here is a nice picture to understand this system easily.

Planets in Solar System

There are eight planets within the system. We already studied some facts about the scheme and also the eight planets in earlier grades. During this unit, we'll find out about one among the opposite members of the system called satellites.

Satellite and their kinds

We know that the sun is in the middle of the system, and therefore, the eight planets including the world revolve around it. We also see the moon at nighttime. The moon revolves around the earth and gets its light from the sun. Any celestial body that revolves around the planets is thought of as satellites.

Categories of Satellites

Satellites are classified into two major types.

1.   Natural Satellites

2.   Artificial Satellite

Natural Satellite

We know that in astronomy, a natural object that revolves around a planet is understood as a natural satellite. The simplest known natural satellite is the Earth’s moon. Other planets even have moons. Besides moons of planets, other bodies are asteroids, comets, and meteoroids are moving fast around the Sun.

Artificial satellite

An object started in orbit by the people is named a man-made satellite. It revolves around the Earth or other planets. They're used for various purposes. Today, these satellites play a key role in communication, industry, military intelligence, and also the scientific study of the planet and location. Other bodies within the system Along with the sun, planets, and natural satellites, our scheme also contains minor planets called asteroids, comets, and meteors.

Some information about Asteroids

They are rocky bodies of various sizes that are members of the system. They move in elliptical orbits between Mars and Jupiter. There are about 10000 asteroids within the world. Some asteroids have a diameter of up to 1000 kilometers but, some are very small in diameter.

We know that the bulk of them is too small to be seen from the planet. Only two which is Ceres and Vesta are often seen from the world without a telescope. Uses of satellites Scientists have developed many forms of satellites. Each satellite is meant to serve a selected purpose and mission.

Telecommunication satellites

It helps in carrying radio, television, and telephone signals over long distances. Navigational satellite pinpoints the situation of objects on Earth. Weather satellites help in weather forecasts. Surveillance satellites are wont to monitor military activities. Scientific satellites provide a space-based platform for observation of Earth, the opposite planets, the sun, and space.

Kinds of Meteors

They have different kinds which are as under.

Brilliant meteors are referred to as fireballs occur singly and encompass a luminous head and are followed by a tail of bright light.

Bolides are quite Meteors that are seen to explode with a sound like mad or the other.

Fainter meteors are called shooting stars. We can see several of them on a transparent starry night. Sometimes many such meteors occur simultaneously and appear from a hard and fast point. These clusters of meteors are referred to as meteors showers
